My sister spied this albino yearling deer in her backyard earlier this winter.  Coincidentally, she had another one about 7 years ago or so that turned into a nice buck.

Healthy lookin

He was just east of downtown Cleveland in the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve.  Amazing how they get there surrounded by humanity.

Tell me about it. Saw a deer wandering around downtown yesterday.

This was a surgical strike performed by an experience operator. He skillfully lifted the lid, extracted the trash bag and then sat down to mock me with his feast. I'm going to have to improve my bear proofing!

Sometimes I wish I had bears around…but then again, sometimes I don’t.  There are a few that resident bears in OH, plus some young males that wander in from PA every year.  Had one on my trail cam back in 2009.

In any event cool video, squirrels and raccoons are enough of an adversary for me and my bird feeders and trash cans.

Had this doe approach the house the other day.  First time I can remember one this close during the day.  I scared her away after the pic as I didn’t want her getting a taste of and for the plantings around the house.  Already enough nighttime browsing of our plantings taking place.

That looks like a whopper!   Did it appear to be laying eggs in the sandy soil?  (And is this by the Coast or do you have patches of sandy soil like this around the State?)

This is next to a pond. Technically a river, is dammed up to create a pond.  The sand was mostly brought in as part of the site work.  It tried 2 holes, but don't think it successfully deposited any eggs. We've just left the areas alone.

She was good size, measured the carapace at 11".

A lady never discloses the size of her carapace.

I took this picture during the last heat spell as I have never seen or remember seeing this posting behavior before.  I found out today it's called splooting; which squirrels do to cool off.

Science lesson over.  Class dismissed🤓

I've seen it quite a bit "down here in the tropics" and assumed that was why but never researched it.  Thanks.

Trail camera…

Edit to add, check out the flies on the doe.  One was in the yard last week and her face was covered!
