    Careful. Not all flares produce a CME and it is the CME that creates the Geomagnetic storms, not the flares themselves. You can't measure the storm by the strength of the flare. I'm not saying that's the case as the 2003 storm was a G5 storm and destroyed almost half of our satellites at the time, but you get what I'm saying.

    Electric power is transported in 3 phases each running 120V . When you look up at power lines you always see 3 main cables. Each one is a leg of 120V. Most homes only require 240(almost everything runs off 120 except the large appliances). Large motors take even more power, so all 3 120V are feed into it. When you have sustained voltage irregularities is causes the motor to not run properly and damage it, if left unchecked. That's why all my motors have phase monitors hooked up to them. I'm alerted if the voltage gets screwy and I'll shut it down until I can diagnose the issue.

    Bummed on the cloud cover too, but it may clear before sunrise. My only concern is that the first CME came in a little stronger than expected and we are already at kp8. It's going to get very interesting when next 2 arrive this evening.

    I wouldn't worry too much unless you are operating anything that uses 3 phase power. Voltage irregularities can destroy motors and starters.

    I was I NH at school for the 2003 storm. My friends and I drove about 30min away from campus and it was one of the greatest things I have ever witnessed. Colors dancing around the sky for hours.

    Noaa forecasting a Severe G4 event with a max kp of 8. I operate an Ice rink and I'm going to make sure all my compressors are offline overnight. Call me paranoid but the forecast model looks ugly AF and something I have never seen before.

    Some wording by the NWS that you rarely see. "Very large to GIANT hail". Today is not the day to be caught in a thunder storm down there.

    Winter Srorm Jonas or maybe it was Nemo( or Stella, somewhere around winter 2014-2015), but one of them was the same transfer situation. Had us getting 1-2 feet 48hr prior to event and I think we got maybe 5inches. Point is.....you can never fully trust the models with Miller Bs.

    I remember that like it was yesterday. Everyone excepted the NAM to undercut the totals of the GFS and EURO when it came into long-range view, only to explode the totals and have the EURO and GFS follow suit all the way up to event start. We all haled KING NAM for a very brief time. Man what a time to be alive 😀

    Been snowing at Mountain Creek since 10am. Just changed over to rain now. I am soaking wet lol. 😄
