EXTREMELY RARE OCCULTATION OF BETELGEUSE: On Monday evening, Dec. 11th, millions of people in South Florida may be able to look up and watch Betelgeuse disappear. The first magnitude red giant, famous for its threat to go supernova, will be occulted (eclipsed) by an asteroid. The occultation path stretches all the way from Miami to southern parts of Europe including Spain, Italy and Greece. To help you explore the details of the event, a Google Earth file is included on today's edition of Spaceweather.com.
