Humidex Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Winter has finally arrived in the Rice Lake, Ont. area. Waiting to get some of that lake effect snow or a big Colorado Low booming through. Does anyone see anything big on the horizon? This site seems to have next to no Cdn activity, will monitor site for a while longer. Also, with the closing or monetizing of so many weather sites, are there any good free sites with snow maps, forums, etc, sites still rumbling along? 2

You're probably aware of @Snowgeek93 and @SNOWBOB11. I know SnowBob hangs out in the Ohio Valley thread at times. 1

I probably should be posting here but theres not very many members left so I’d be talking to myself basically. I’ll probably just keep hanging around the Ohio valley threads until they kick me out lol. If you want to post anything feel free I’ll chime in. Seems to be a chance at a wide ranging system for S ON end of next week. I have my eye on that one.

I miss the AccuWeather days when we had more of a community to discuss and track storms/weather together. I still follow along here but discussion is limited. I wonder what ever happened to the old members?

I guess with the last few winters being warmer and the other forums closing down they just never bothered to join the new site. It’s great here though. Not much drama and a pretty relaxed atmosphere. Anyway here’s hoping the system at the end of the week can phase more and deliver to the areas in Ontario that haven’t been able to cash in on the lake effect snows this year so far.
Humidex Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 I remember some intense debates in the Accuweather Cdn forum and some incredibly knowledgable posters. One guy sticks out, Big Mike, or Bigmt. He was a charachter, from the Ottawa area, wonder what he's up to. SNOWBOB11, Snowgeek93 are familiar names for sure. Wondering what happened to Plowguy and I think Campirebbqer from Campbellford. I will be around, thanks guys. 1
Astronomer Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Some familiar and missed names mentioned here. There was a guy from Alliston who did great snow squall maps. Speaking of which, London and area is in the Bulls-eye this week with the passage of that storm south of the border.
Humidex Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Might get some plowable snow early this weekend 😀 woot woot! Weather Advisory in effect for: Cobourg - Colborne - Western Northumberland County Winter weather travel advisory in effect. Hazards: Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm. Reduced visibility in areas of heavier snow. Timing: Beginning this evening and ending Saturday morning. Discussion: Snow associated with a weather system is expected to move into the region this evening. Local snowfall amounts of up to 10 cm or so are possible for areas near Lake Ontario by Saturday morning. Travel along Highway 401 may be hazardous at times. Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. 1
SNOWBOB11 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) It’s coming down out there right now. Looks like there’s a bit of lake enhancement for around the lake shore. Might make a run at 4”. Edited January 11 by SNOWBOB11
Humidex Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 🇺🇸Weather related political question🇨🇦 An interesting graphic from NOAA Buffalo. It shows the high end precipitation " High End Amount" with a 10 % chance of higher amounts. The Environment Canada graphic shows a corresponding lake effect snow event in Ontario's snow belt. My question is , When Canada takes over USA, will we have seamless weather graphics and forecasts? That may be the best positive reason for us.
Humidex Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 This is a week out, looks like it could perform for Southern Ontario. I will not get sucked in by the models this year. Just like the burger meme below " what models promise vs what models deliver.
Humidex Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Mostly Snow Belt areas getting any significant snow this week. My area, North of Cobourg just getting a dusting.
SNOWBOB11 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) 4 hours ago, Humidex said: Mostly Snow Belt areas getting any significant snow this week. My area, North of Cobourg just getting a dusting. GFS increased snow totals for the end of week system and also lowered temperatures so less chance of mixing. Models don’t have that system(s) figured out yet. Edited January 14 by SNOWBOB11
Humidex Posted Tuesday at 11:23 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:23 PM After reviewing the GFS18z Jan 21/2025, it looks to me like we have no big snowfalls till possibly mid Feb, just some Clippers, racing through. Is it my imagination or is South Ontario suffering from a long term ( tens of years ) storm drought?
